Back in the lounge, Mike's breakfast was on the table, Nann was in the kitchen organising another cup of tea. She came back into the lounge and sat down opposite Mike and watched as he tucked into his eggs on toast. once he had finished she took his plate and washed it up, then they both headed for the door and out into the morning sunshine. The run to Rabat was lovely, the bus was only half full, and Mike and Nann headed for the back seat, Nann sat by the window, and once Mike was in his seat, she placed her legs across his, Mike held her thighs on his lap and as he did so Nann found his fingers on her lower thighs, she didn't stop Mike, in fact, she enjoyed the feeling, as she sat back enjoying the feeling, she closed her eyes, her breathing became erratic, she held Mike's arm and wondered just how far Mike planned to take this on the bus. But Mike was just really not thinking in that way, he was just holding on to Nann in his own way. Nann opened her eyes and looked at him. "Do you know love, you have very soft fingers for a sailor." Mike squeezed her leg, looking at her said."Well to be honest love, I'm not a true sailor as yet, just a watchkeeper, and my main job is to keep the books up to date. The only ropes I have any dealings with is the one used to hoist the Union Jack in the mornings or take it down in the evenings. To be honest, I cannot tell you what my hands will look like in say five or ten years time." Nann grabbed the hand that was giving her so much pleasure, and turning the palm towards her mouth she kissed it, then each finger. I don't care how bad they get, they will still be soft to me, and give me the gentle pleasure they do now."
When they got to Rabat, Mike had to wake Nann up, she was sound asleep. As she opened her eyes, Mike asked her if she was ok. Nann kissed Mike on the cheek and smiled at him. I'm feeling fine love," she said. "What you do to me just, well makes me, I can't really describe it, but don't stop doing it, please." The bus was now stopped and they both got off, as Nann got to the door she felt the light tap on her bottom, as she made to step down, she wiggled her bottom at him, saying. "Love you too." The two of them walked up to the park area and Mike bought a couple of 7 ups, sitting by the dry moat they drank and talked in the morning sunshine, it was now very warm, but not hot, they sat holding hands on the seat enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the old capital. Finishing their drinks they headed for Mdina, walking over the bridge they stopped to look into the dry moat, this now contained some trees, orange trees, all bursting with fruit. Walking under the arch and through the narrow streets they headed for the ramparts, they passed the church, and stopped for a minute or two, no they were not Catholic, but to then this was a church and the house of God, and as far as they both were concerned, God was a God of all the people, so as they stopped, they said a silent prayer, Mike asking that the future for them both be of happiness and joy. Mike and Nann had walked these narrow streets many times together, apart from going out in the canoe to there little beach, this was their favourite place. On the ramparts, they sat side by side looking out towards Mosta and the sea beyond, looking out towards the north of the Island, the sea and sky were blue, and as you looked towards the horizon, it was almost impossible to see where the sea the sky met. The sun was now getting hotter, and it shon on the dome of the Mosta church, and with all the sand stone houses, it looked a picture. "I love this Island."Mike said. "If we ever had enough money, I think I would buy a place out here so that once my naval career was over, we could come back and enjoy the things we do now in our later years." Nann held his arm and gave it a squeese. "That would be lovely sweetheart, one day maybe, one day."
Nann said she was feeling hungry, so Mike helped her off the ramparts and together hand in hand they went back into Rabat to a little cafe they knew, they sat at a table on the pavement under a huge sun canopy and Mike ordered egg sandwiches and two 7 up, they were alone at the cafe, even though there were six tables under the canopy, no one sat near them, so they sat and talked and enjoyed their food and drink. Nann asked Mike when he was due to go to sea, and as Mike said. "I don't really know, except I know it's at the end of the month, and we will be away for just over a month." "What am I going to do for a whole month." Nann asked. Mike leaned across the small table and kissed her cheek, "Listen love, you have your job, and you could always put pen to paper, and lets face it, we are doing an exercise around Malta, so I reckon if you walk along Tower Road, you will probraly see us floating about anyway." Mike laughed and Nann got a fit of the giggles. "I'll do that." she said.
They left Rabat in the full heat of the afternoon, the temperature was well up into the 90s. On the bus, even with all the windows open it was too hot to feel comfortable, the sun was hitting the roof of the bus, and the inside was like an oven. again Mike and Nann were sat at the back, but even with Nann's small fan that she carried in her bag, it made little differents to trying to keep her cool, she sat with both feet on the floor and tried flapping the bottom of her dress to produce a draft, but after a short time, it became tiring and she stopped, even Mike tried using the fan in the hope he could produce a bit of a breeze, but nothing seemed to work. In the end, Nann did the only thing she could to stay cool in public, she raised the skirt part of the dress to the top of her thighs, making sure her modesty stayed in tack in the hope that some draft might penetrate where needed at this moment in time. Mike in the meantime, had unbuttoned his shirt. When Mike asked Nann if she was ok, she just looked at him and said. "What do you think." Mike made to put his arm around her, but Nann pulled away saying. "Sorry love, please don't, I am very sweaty, I need a shower and a change of clothes, I cannot wait to get home."
Once back in the flat, Nann went straight into the bedroom, stripped off and headed for the shower, ten minutes later she was back, a huge smile on her face saying she felt much better, then putting on a clean pair of panties and a clean bra, she laid on the bed. Mike then went to the shower and had a shower himself, he had the water nice and cool and enjoyed the quietness of standing there thinking about what was going to happen over the next few weeks. Wrapped in a towel Mike returned to the bedroom, Nann was still on her back, but her eyes were closed, she was sound asleep. Mike stood at the end of the bed for a short while, then closing the bedroom door behind himself headed for the lounge. Mike read the Malta Times sat at the table, then looking at his watch he realised he had been reading for over an hour and a half. Going into the kitchen, he put the kettle on and made a pot of tea, then taking a cup into Nann, he put it on the bedside cabinet and sat on the bed beside her. Leaning over her he kissed her eyes, then her nose, as she began to stir and wake up, he kissed her mouth, her arms came up and went around his neck. "Wake up sleepy head, cup of tea on the side for you," Mike said. "What's the time, how long have I been asleep for." Mike looked at his watch. "Its four thirty, and you my sweet have been asleep for two hours." Mike left Nann to drink her tea and get up when she was ready, Mike returned to the lounge, then went out onto the balcony taking his own tea with him, as he stood watching up the creek, he was hoping to see Roger and Grace, but there was no sign at that time, he then felt arms going around his waist. "Thank you, sweetheart, for letting me sleep for an hour," Nann said. "To be honest that bus ride back from Rabat was a real killer, I was all in, I love you." Mike turned in her embrace and they kissed. "That alright love." Mike said, I've come to realise, that at this time of the month, the heat can be a killer, and in your case, you can get very tired." Nann looked at him. "What do you know about this, as you say, time of the month." Mike then explained to Nann that because he worried about her, he had done some research on womans monthly problems, and he was now fully up to speed on what happens and why, and in future, all she had to do was tell him, using any code she wanted, and he would understand. Nann put her arms around Mike's neck and held him close. "I love you, Michael Palmer, yes, I was too embarrassed to talk to you about it, mummy said I should, and you would understand, but I, sort of tried to get on with it myself, and it was hard. Now you understand, it makes life so much easier." she kissed him. As she pulled away, she saw the canoe coming slowly up the creek under sail her mother and father sat as she and Mike always sat, she waved, but they didn't see her, they were to busy sailing and enjoying each others company.
Mike left Nann on the balcony and headed for the slipway, as the canoe touched bottom Mike held onto it and helped Grace out, then handing her their beach bag, she headed up the slipway to the flat. Mike gave Roger a hand to drag the canoe up the slipway and put it onto its rests, making sure before they did, there was no water inside, they turned the canoe over, but it was bone dry, so they placed it on the rests and put the tarpaulin over the cockpit. "How did it go," Mike asked as they made there way up to the flat. "Brilliant," Roger said. "Absolutely brilliant, as you said old son, with the canoe on its side and placing the paddles in the right position, then putting your large beach towel over the top, it's like, well heaven. We had a great afternoon after our morning swim. In the flat, Grace and Nann were in the kitchen getting dinner ready, they were deep in conversation when Nann said."Mummy, you shouldn't be telling me that." then there was a lot of laughing and giggling from the kitchen. Nann came into the lounge with a tray, on it was a pot of tea, cups and a plate of biscuits. "Michael love, it seems that mummy and daddy love the canoe as much as we do, it seems that you can do all sorts of wicked things in it." Mike looked at her and she saw the twinkle in his eye. "Great," he said. "The more she is used, the better, let face it, we found love and happiness in that canoe, so if your mum and dad can find the same, then what I say." he looked at Roger. "Fill your boots." "We appreciate that son, don't we Grace." "We do," Grace said. "And Maureen had advised me, that if we do decide to do, well you know, I should buy a mini skirt for comfort, and not wear shorts." "Great," said Roger. "Next time you're in town, see what you can pick up."
