Saturday again was a beautiful day. Kelvin was going away again with his school chum, he was going away for a fortnight, on their cabin cruiser. The plan was to head over to Sicily, then do some fishing and a load of sightseeing. He was picked up at 10 am and was more than happy to go, he said goodbye to everyone, but his feelings were one of thank goodness, I am getting away from this boring situation, I am going to do what I want to do with people who are happy to have me with them, and I am not the young one in this situation, my friend is younger than me, and looks up to me to show him the ropes. Ken and Dorothy were more than happy to let Kelvin go, they knew, that now Michael had found something new to keep him occupied, Kelvin would be left to his own devices, and they felt that by consenting toKelvin's trips away, they were giving him the chance to grow stronger. Kelvin had always been the loner, he spent his time with his head in a book, or out fishing, things that Mike did not do, Mike was more the, let's get out there and see what this is all about, type of guy, If a rope was hanging from the branch of a tree, he would climb up the rope to see what was at the top, if he found a cave, he would explore to see where it went to, he was the one with the rips in his trousers, or blood running from cuts on his knees, whereas Kelvin, could be dressed in a clean white shirt and clean socks, and when he went to bed he was still clean and tidy. Whereas Mike, well Mike was Mike.
Nann and Mike spent the Saturday putting the finishing touches to the canoe, Nann had made a triangular sail from stiffened cotton in pale green to match the canoe, and on the sail in dark green paint were the letters M&M. The plan was to put her in the water on the Monday and have a good day out taking a picnic. By dinner time they were hot, the perspiration running down there backs, but they had decided that they could do little more and the test run on the Monday would prove if the job was a success. As they were leaving the boathouse, they saw Mike's father getting the car ready for a trip out, he was taking Dorothy into Sliema to pick up something for her sewing machine, Mike and Nann asked if they could be dropped off at Msida, Maureen's flat. "Of course," Ken said, "hop in," Mike and Nann sat in the back seat and waited for Dorothy, then the four of them headed off down the creek road, Ken asked Maureen if she was going to the tombola at the club that night, Nann looked at Mike and he nodded to her, and then said, "Yes, do come, it's big money tonight, and it will be a lot of fun." Both Ken and Dorothy agreed, Dorothy saying that the last time they went, she won £50, then looking round at Nann she said, "Come on Maureen, your mum and dad are going to be there, in fact we are picking them up at 7 pm." Mike looked at his dad in the rearview mirror "Tell you what dad, Maureen and I will meet you there." Ken looked at his son and smiled, "Ok son, whatever, but don't be late, we will try and save you a seat." At the flat, Nann and Mike got out of the car and made their way to the Taylor's flat. the flat was empty, on the table was a note for Nann saying, gone to Valletta with your dad, back by 5. Mike looked at his watch, then grabbing Nann around the waist said, "we have four hours, what do you want to do," Nann pushed him away, "not that," she said, "I need a shower and a change of clothes." She disappeared into her bedroom, then poking her head around the lounge door said, "you can keep me company if you like." Mike followed Nann into the bathroom, as she walked towards the shower cubical Mike watched as the towel that was around her body dropped to the floor, and this vision of loveliness stepped into the shower and used the jet of water. Mike lowered the loo cover and sat down watching Nann soap her self all over, then turned slowly under the jet to remove the soap. As she turned off the water and made to step out, Mike was waiting for her with a large fluffy towel, he walked towards her and began to dry her shoulder, her back and the cheeks of her bottom, then letting her take over the towel, Nann dried the rest of her body, as she did so she kept watching Mike, who was again sat on the loo lid. As she finished, Mike said, "right love, what do you plan to wear, it's very warm tonight." Nann stood there dumbstruck, with the towel only just covering the vital bits of her body, "I don't believe it," she said, "here I am, almost starkers, and you didn't even attempt to ravish me, I think Michael Palmer, you have gone off me." Mike looked at her with the towel hanging from her hand in front of her," don't be daft girl," he said, "if the truth be known, I can't keep my hands off of you, now please, get dressed." Nann disappeared into the bedroom and Mike made his way back to the lounge, as he made to sit down in the large chair, he heard his name being called. "Michael, come here please," Mike followed the voice and found Nann lying on her bed, her golden brown naked body on the pure white sheet. "what's the time," she asked, Mike looked at his watch, "14-30," he said, Ok," Nann said, "you have two hours, put this on," She handed him a small package. Lying on top of her Mike made love to the love of his life, the whole experience was breathtaking, Nann lay back and let Mike make all the moves, she climbed to cloud nine and beyond, and as she held this man, this man who had now taken over her life, she felt that it could never get better than it was at this moment in time, coming back to earth was for her a slow prosses but one she hoped she would experience again and again. Mike gave her one last kiss and headed for the bathroom, he had a quick shower, redressed and together left the flat hand in hand. Catching the bus into Sliema they headed for Tonys bar, they ordered omelette and chips with bread and butter and two 7up's, both were hungry, neither of them had eaten since breakfast. As they sat talking, Nann kept giggling. "What's going on," Mike wanted to know, Nann laughed again, "my dad's not going to be very happy tomorrow morning, " she said, "but don't worry about it, I will sort it out with mummy, I'll have a quiet little word in her ear at the tombola.
Chapter Eleven
Mike and Nann walked along the waterfront towards Manoel Island, it was a beautiful night, the stars were bright in the night sky, and Mike had his arm around Nann's waist. She was wearing a white sleeveless blouse and a white pleated skirt with small flowers on it. As they walked along the promenade every so often a car horn was sounded and from a car window would be heard a wolf whistle or a cheer. Mike was wondering what was going on, so he asked Nann to walk on ahead of him, as she did as asked, Mike then realised what was going on, every car that passed them, with the car headlights on, Nann's skirt became transparent so that all the drivers could see a nice pair of legs and a beautiful bottom. As Mike called Nann back to his side, he explained the situation to her. "What do I do Michael, this is so embarrassing, what do I do." Mike decided that it would be better if Nann walked in front of him until they got to the bridge, the road at Manoel Island had very few lights on it, and they were not as bright. Mike tapped Nann's bottom, "Why on earth did you decide to wear that skirt," Mike asked. "Well," she said, "I thought you would like it, I try and dress to please you." Mike held her away from the car's headlights, "I appreciate that love, but with this outfit, you are in all tense and purposes totally naked to all the car drivers. Come on let's make a mad dash for the Island, at least there we can walk hand in hand.
When they got to the club, the rest of the families hadn't arrived, Mike went to the bar and bought two 7up's with two straws and the two of them sat at an empty table. Both sat next to the wall and waited. The two families arrived some ten minutes later, Nann waved and they came and sat down. Dorothy needed to use the restroom, so disappeared, and the two dad's made there way to the bar to get drinks for themselves and the ladies. Nann took her mother to one side and Mike noticed that they were talking quite intently, then Grace broke into laughter, she looked at Mike and called him over. "What's this I hear about you taking my husband's pleasure away from him." Mike looked at her, but she was smiling at him, then putting her hand on his shoulder saying, "Don't you worry Michael, I will sort Roger out, he won't miss out I promise you. However, how are things going with you two." Mike went to say things were going great, but Maureen looked at her mum asking her, "Mummy, how long does it take to come down from cloud nine." Grace laughed just as Dorothy and the two men came back to the table. "Everything ok," Dorothy asked, "Yes Dorothy," Grace said, "everything is perfect." As the two men sat down, on a tray they had drinks for everyone, plus a bottle of bubbly and six glasses, Dorothy pointed to the bottle, "what's this," she asked, Ken, looked at his wife, "For the birthday people," he said, filling the six glasses, they then toasted their siblings and waited for the game to begin.
Mike was doing well, he was getting down to ones, and the perspiration was running down his neck and onto his shirt, Nann sat beside him was using one of Mike's man sized hankies to try and dry him off, then she shouted house. Her card was checked, she had won £35, Mike gave her a kiss, "Well done love," he said she smiled and gave him a nudge. "Your turn next," she said
The night progressed, and Mike was just unlucky, it was always the same, he would be waiting for one number, and someone else in the room would call out. It was the very last game of the night, the house prise was£75, and the caller was in fine form. Two little ducks 22, legs 11, two fat ladies 88, top of the shop 90. Mike needed one number for the house, 28. he heard the shout, it came from his own table, he looked at Nann, she had a huge smile on her face, the checker came over and Nann picked up Mike's card and handed it to him. "One card correct," the checker said, "any other callers," the room was silent. "One winning card to take the full prize money of £75, congratulations.
All around the room people were cheering and shouting, "well done son," the caller came to Mike's table and gave him an envelope with the money inside. Mike took out £5 and handed it to his father, " Dad," he said, "drinks all round, I think." His father smiled and with Roger going with him, they made there way to the bar to get the round of drinks. "So," Grace asked, "what do you intend to use that money for Michael." Michael just smiled, "Not sure yet, but we have six weeks to enjoy it, don't we love." he put his arm around Nann's shoulder and kissed her cheek.
