Chapter Nine

Nann's birthday was on the Saturday, on the Friday she had told Mike, that they could meet up later in the day, but her mum and dad were taking her out for lunch, just the three of them. What Nann didn't know, was that her mother and father had invited Mike along without telling Nann. Mike made his way into Sliema, knowing he had to be at the restaurant for 12-30. In his pocket, he was carrying a small green box with white edging, inside was a heart shaped locket on an 18 inch silver chain. On the locket were the words love always, and the letters M & M entwined. When Mike got to the restaurant Nann's mother and father were facing the door, so they saw Mike come in, Nann was facing them, so couldn't see Mike. He quietly walked towards the table and put his hand on her shoulder, she turned with a start, then saw Mike standing behind her, getting up from her chair she put her arms around his neck and kissed him. Then she pushed him away. "Where's my card," she asked, then looking at her mum, "this man is supposed to love me, and he didn't even send me a birthday card." While she was ranting and raving, Mike removed the small box from his pocket and placed it on her table mat. "Well." She said, "wheres my card," Mike looked at Nann, "sorry love, don't do cards, too costly and too commercialised. Then going to the seat next to her he sat down. As Nann was about to have a second go at Mike, she saw the smile on her mother's face, plus the fact her eyes kept lowering to the table mat. Nann looked down, saw the box, then picking it up, she looked at everyone around the table, then back at Mike. "From you," she said, "For me." Mike nodded and smiled. Nann with dainty fingers opened the small box, her mouth opened in wonder, she took out the locket and chain holding it up for her parents to see, then looking at Mike she said."Oh, Michael, it's beautiful." Then handing it to him she said, "please love, put it on for me." turning slightly in her chair she allowed Mike to place the locket around her neck and do up the delicate clasp, he then whispered, "happy birthday sweetheart. then so that no one else could hear, he said, "I wish I was hanging off the chain." Nann giggled, then Roger said. "Come on you two, there are two more people sat at this table beside you." "Oh, daddy." Nann said, "I thought this was my big day." and smiled at him. The meal was lovely, and as it was Nann's treat, she had chosen the whole menu herself, and Mike, who tended to be very picky with his food, found he was able to enjoy everything on his plate.
After the meal, they all sat and had coffee, and Roger started to ask Mike what he planned to do when he finished school. Mike explained about the naval entrance exam, and if he passed that, he would be going to Manoel Island three days a week to learn the ways of the navy. Roger seemed impressed and asked Nann what she thought. But all Nann said. " As long as this man," and she held Mike's hand. "Loves me, I will wait to see what develops." "Well Mike," Roger said, "and how do you feel about our daughter." Mike looked at him. "if you must know sir, I love your daughter very much, and hope in the not too distant future we may be able to discuss it in greater detail." Roger looked at Mike, then at Nann who had a very cheeky grin on her face. "Well, daddy, Nann said, "what do you say to that." Grace came to the rescue. "Why don't you two love birds go off and enjoy yourselves, and us oldies will head home. " Mike got up from the table, and holding Nann's chair helped her away from the table, as they left, Mike turned. "Thank you for the meal," he said, "I enjoyed it, plus the company." As they walked away, Mike heard Grace say. " isn't he a nice well mannered boy."
Outside it was hot, Nann and Mike walked up the hill towards Tower Road and the sea, there was a nice breeze blowing off of the Mediterranean sea, and as they made their way onto the rocky shoreline to find a place to sit alone, they could feel the fine spray hitting there faces. They found a place to sit, in the shade, they were totally alone. Mike closed his eyes to the brightness of the day, he felt content with his girl snuggled up beside him. " Michael,"  she said, "what did you mean in the restaurant when you said you wish it was you hanging off the chain." Mike opened his eyes, "well," he said pulling the front of her top away and looking down, " that has to be the best set of pillows in town and the softest." Mike laughed. "I love you, Nann Taylor, I really do." Then holding her in his arms he kissed her mouth, she held the kiss and when they parted Mike lay with his head in her lap, and she sat back running her fingers through his hair. As Mike again closed his eyes to the brightness of the suns rays, he felt relaxed and happy, he was sixteen, he was in love, and he had the perfect hobby, what more could a young man want in life.
Mike opened his eyes and looked at his watch, it was 17-30, they had been in the same spot for two hours. "Come on love, " Mike said, "we had better get you home, it will be dark soon." Mike helped Nann to her feet, as she stood alongside him he kissed her mouth, then taking her hand walked her back to Tower Road and the bus stop, on the bus, the journey to Msida was very quick and once there they walked the short distance to Nann's flat.
Inside it was all quiet. Mummy, daddy, Nann called, no answer. "Would you like a cup of tea," Nann asked. "Why not," Mike said, "I could do with a drink." As Mike sat at the table, he saw the note, he called Nann and handed over the piece of paper, then she showed it to Mike. "What's all this about," she asked, mike read the message, have gone on all night beach party with the Palmer's, will see you sometime tomorrow, have fun, love mummy and daddy. Happy birthday. Mike looked at Nann. "Well," he said. "If  last year is anything to go by, we won't see them again until tomorrow dinner time." "What do you mean," Nann asked. Mike explained, that all the husbands and wives take their cars, a load of food and booze, and have a wild party on the beach at Golden Bay, he giggled. They sleep on the beach, and in the morning go for an early morning swim to get rid of there hangovers. "Sorry love, but you won't be seeing until at least noon tomorrow." The kettle was boiling, so Nann made a pot of tea, then from the kitchen, she asked if Mike would like something to eat. "Yes please, " Mike said, "what," Nann asked, "surprise me," Mike said, a short time later Nann appeared with two bowls of soup and some fresh bread. As they ate, Mike was quiet, but Nann was almost giggling to herself. "What's up with you," Mike asked. "Nothing, nothing love," Nann replied, "I was just thinking," "what about," Mike asked. "never mind." Nann said, "later.
After the meal they both went out onto the balcony, it was cooling down now, but the breeze that was blowing was still somewhat warm. Mike was leaning on the stone rail and Nann was not quite next to him, Mike turned and took Nann into his arms, he kissed her, she put her arms around Mike's waist and they held the kiss for a long time. They both turned together and Nann found herself against the rail and Mike leaning into her. "Michael," she said, "I need to use the loo," he let her go without a word, just a peck on the cheek. After a short time, having watched the lights go on onboard the Forth, he walked back into the lounge shutting and locking the balcony door as he went. As Mike went to sit the large chair, he heard his name being called. "Michael, can you come here please." He walked from the lounge into the hall, the very first door was slightly open, and Mike walked in. In the middle of the bed opposite the window a bed with a mosquito net around it, the bed had the blankets pulled down, but on the bed on top of the sheet was a large towel on top of it. Standing by a full length mirror stood Nann, she was wearing a dress that almost came to the knee, it was made of cotton and was a very pale green with little pink flowers on it, her face was aglow and on her mouth the faintest hint of lipstick. As he looked her up and down, his mouth was getting dryer and dryer, he wanted to speak, to say you look beautiful, but it wouldn't come out. Then she spoke. "Michael, I promised you the best present a woman could ever give her man." She held out her arms to him, "come here," she whispered, "and unwrap your birthday present." Mike walked towards her and as he got to her, she turned round, the back of the dress had a zip that started at the neck and ended at a point just below her waist. Very slowly and carefully Mike lowered the zip, and as he did so Nann lowered her arms and the dress dropped to the floor, she turned again, this time to face him, she was wearing a pale green bra and matching panties, Mike stopped and looked at this beautiful vision that was in front of him. "You haven't finished yet darling." Nann said, "you still have two pieces of wrapping paper to go." Mike reached around Nann's body and released the catch to the bra, it fell to the floor and joined the dress. Then with shaking hands, he did his best to lower the panties, as they slid over her bottom and fell to the floor, Nann stepped to one side. Mike was totally mesmerised by her beauty, he made to touch her, but she stepped back.  "Michael my sweet," she said. "I need you in the same state of undress as myself." Mike undressed in a foggy haze, and Nann led  him to the bed. "lay down sweetheart," she said, "we need to get the painful bit over first." Mike lay on the towel and Nann sat astride his thighs, with her fingers she held him, then leaning forwards she removed a small package from under her pillow, taking out the contents, she gently rolled it on to him, then with him still held by her she lifted herself up, placed him where she needed him to be then slowly lowered herself into him. For a split second, she stopped, then Mike felt Nann's bottom resting on his upper thighs, Mike heard the stifled scream, and Nann fell forward onto his body, Mike tried to kiss her, he tried putting his arms around her to take away the pain, but within moments Nann was again upright. "Please don't move sweetheart," she said, "I need to get used to this wonderful feeling." She looked down at him and smiled, " I never realised how big you are."
The first time they made love was over in minutes, Mike could not stop himself, and Nann didn't want him too, but the second time that night was slow and gentle, Mike showed Nann all the love he could for her, what he was doing to her seemed to come naturally, he did not have to think about it, human nature just took over, but he also got it into his head that he would not put Nann through any more pain, so by taking things slow and easy, he felt that the love he was showing this woman would make her feel good about him. What Mike didn't visualise was, that making love to Nann slowly was like feeding her chocolate, she loved it, the slower Mike went, the happier Nann was, and at the end, she was a total wreck, but the love she felt for Mike had grown tenfold..
