As the days and weeks passed, everyone at school was looking forward to the Easter holidays. Mike was hoping to get the canoe back into the water again, he had been working hard on the painting, and she was almost ready for the water. Nann had been on at him to be allowed to go out in her and Mike had told her that she must first pass the swimming test. They both agreed that as soon as the holiday started, Mike would get her down to the boathouse and see how she faired.

Mike and Nann had never been on a proper date as yet, they had only ever been together on the bus, and apart from holding hands, they had never even touched each other. Mike had been given the third degree by his mother, who wanted to know if he had made contact with her, and of coarse Mike told her that he had and that they had been friends for some time, but he wouldn't say any more than that.

On the last day at school, the class exchanged Easter cards and some of the girls even gave each other chocolate eggs. Mike had his holiday all planned out, he hoped, a whole two weeks with Nann, and then it was back to school and summer routine and half days at school.

On the Saturday morning, Mike and his mum went into Valletta to do the shopping, as usual, Kelvin had gone fishing, and dad had gone into the office too, he said catch up on some paperwork. So at 11 am, Mike and his mum were sat under a large sunshade at there favourite cafe, as they sat enjoying there coffee and cheesecake, they were suddenly joined by Nann and her mother Grace. They sat down and Dorothy and Grace were soon engrossed in their own little world, Nann squeezed Mike's knee under the table and he looked at her smiling. Then he taking her arm, he said to his mum." back in a mo   mum, I need to show Maureen something." Taking Nann's hand, he lead her away, up into the next street, and to a seat outside of the indoor market. As they sat there, he looked into her face, then he held her face in his hands and closing the gap between them, Mike kissed her, as he made to pull away, Nann refused to let go, she put her arms around his neck and held him tight. Once the kiss was over, Nann looked into Mik's eyes and said." Michael, I have been waiting for you to do that for almost four months, this is the first time you have kissed me, why so long." Mike looked at her, "How could we have kissed on the school bus." he said, "it would have been all round the school in no time." Nann smiled. "Your right," she said, "so why now, today." Mike smiled again, "it's the holidays, we have two whole weeks, and then we go into summer routine, half the day at school and the rest of the day to ourselves."

"Anyway." Mike continued. "We had better get back, or our mothers will wonder where we are. Oh and when we do get back, let me do the talking, just agree." Mike got up, grabbed Nann by the hand and lead her back through the streets and back to the cafe. Dorothy saw them coming and holding hands. "Where have you two been," Dorothy asked Mike looked at his mum, then smiled saying  " Maureen wanted me to show her where that record shop was, that I kept talking about on the bus." Nann looked at Dorothy and her own mother. "Yes that's right, we went to look at a record shop."  "Well," Dorothy said, "sit yourselves down for a minute, Grace and I are still talking." As Mike and Nann sat there, the adult conversation continued. Then Dorothy said. "look you two, Grace and I want to take a walk into town, I want to show Grace some of the smaller shops that the naval wives use, so why don't you Michael, take Maureen and show her some of the landmarks in Valletta. Oh and remember, we have to be at the N.A.A.F.I. for 14-30." Then the two mum's got up and left Mike and Nann to there own devises. Mike and Nann sat there with there mouths open as they watched their mothers walk up the main road. Mike got up from his seat, and helping Nann up, they walked back to the side street, where they had kissed, then with Mike leading the way, he walked with her hand in hand to the Barracca Gardens, where they found a seat and the pair sat down. It was a lovely sunny day, there were a few wispy clouds in the sky, but for the time of year, it wasn't cold. As they sat they were still holding hands, then Mike put his arm around Nann's shoulder. "I want to kiss you again," Mike said to her. Nann looked at him, "well," she said, "I'm not stopping you, am I." Mike had to think about that, then he gently turned her face to his and their lips touched. There was nobody about where they were sat, they were in a sort of alcove surrounded by bushes and shrubs. As their lips met Mike could feel Nann's tongue trying to push his lips apart, he let it happen and very soon, their tongues were wrestling with each other, they pulled away from each other breathless but happy. As they held each other Mike could feel Nann's heartbeat. He whispered to her. "I can feel your heart beating," he said, she took his hand and placed it under her bust. "There," she said, "now you can really feel it." As his hand rested where she had put it, he could feel with his thumb the underside of her bust, as Mike stroked her there, she gave a whispered sigh and pulled him in tighter. They heard people, someone was heading in there direction. As they sat normally looking out towards the harbour, a sailor past them with a Maltese girl on his arm, as they passed both Mike and Nann heard him swear under his breath. Mike giggled, then to Nann he said. "We must have taken his seat." Looking at his watch, he stood up. "We had better go," Mike said. "It's nearly 14-30 and I have to help with the shopping." Taking Nann's hand and holding her in his arms Mike kissed her again, then together they walked into the square and across to the N.A.A.F.I shop. "When am I going to see you again." Nann asked. Mike said, "how about Monday, come down to the boathouse at around 10, if its a nice day, then we can swim, and you my angel can show me how good you are. If the weather is bad we can go into Valletta for the day." "Ok." Nann said, "Monday it is then.

They both got to the N.A.A.F.I. shop just as Grace and Dorothy were coming out of the side street, they were smiling when they saw there two teenagers waiting for them. "Right," said Dorothy. "Let's get finished and get home, I could do with a good cuppa." With both Dorothy and Grace going into the shop together, followed by there teenage children, the shopping was done in record time, both Mike and Maureen seemed to know where most things were kept on the shelves, and as the mothers called out to there children what was required to fill the shopping baskets, they did the running around.

With the shopping complete, and father waiting in the car, they all piled in with their boxes of victuals, Dad took grace and Nann home to Msida then came back to the flat with Mike and his mum

Sunday was beautiful, the sun was hot in the sky and the clouds were almost non existent. After the church service, the family headed out to Delimara Point. The sun was still on the water when they got there and there was a lot of locals and British people swimming. When they got down to the rocky swimming area they heard someone calling, it was the Taylor's, better known as Roger, Grace and Maureen. The Palmer's joined them and together they sat and had a great lunch. then it was time for a swim. Both Kelvin and Mike jumped in off the rocks, some 30 feet or more, and then Kelvin went back to where his mother was sat and grabbed his flippers, mask and snorkel and went off on his own. Mike was still in the water where he had jumped in and looking up he could see Nann looking down at him. "Come on." called Mike. "You can do it." Nann looked down again, and then threw herself into the air towards the water, as her feet slid under the water followed by the rest of her body, Mike took a lungful of air and dove down to the bottom of the inlet. As Nann arrived alongside him, she seemed a little shocked to find him there, Mike put his arm around Nann's waist and kicked with his legs, they came to the surface together. Mike swam away to a small shelf just above the waterline, it went in under the rocks for about 12 feet. The shelf was flat and its roof some 5 feet high. As Mike lay on the shelf with the water lapping his back, Nann joined him. "How did you discover this place." She asked. Mike held out his hand to her. "You can only see it at low tide. " he said, "I found it last year, purely by accident, now you know about it like I do." Nann lay alongside Mike, they were close but not touching, he looked at her, and they kissed, as he went to hold her in his embrace, she pulled away. "Michael, what do you want from me," she asked, Mike, looked at her with a frown. "What do you mean," he asked. "Let me put it this way," Nann said. "I like you, I like you a lot, but I am only 15 and I have no wish to get involved with boys." I agree." Mike said. "I have got my future already planned out, and at the moment a girlfriend is not part of the plan. But I like you a hell of a lot and would love to get to know you a whole lot more." As he said that Nann grabbed for Mike's hand, as she held it, Mike pulled her gently towards him and their lips met, the kiss was pure love, and although both Nann and Mike had said, they were not ready for a boy girl relationship, the impression that they were giving each other was one of, I like this and want to take it to the next level. Mike broke the kiss, he was feeling funny inside, his gut was all churned up, and down below he was very uncomfortable. Sorting himself out, and with Nann's head on his chest, he held here, his fingers running up and down her back. She gave a little shiver and lifted her head, looking into his eyes she smiled and said."I like that, it feels nice." As the water lapped around them, Mike realised that the tide was now coming back in, so he told Nann that they would have to go, or they could find themselves trapped. Working there way to the entrance, they heard there names being called, diving back into the water, and swimming to the bottom they made there way to the centra of the inlet and came to the surface together. As they came up, they heard Roger say, "It's ok folks, there over here." Then shouting to Nann and Mike, he called. "Come on you two, it's time for tea." Nann and Mike swam to the lower end of the ledge where it was easier to get out of the water and headed together towards there families.

Back with the two families, they both sat down and were handed sandwiches and a cup of tea, Nann put a large towel around her shoulders, that covered her bust and thighs, Mike watched her and realised he was also being watched by Grace. As he looked at her, she smiled at him, Mike returned the smile and then drunk from his cup. Did Mrs Taylor know, did she suspect that her daughter and this young man were slowly falling in love if she did, would she try to stop it.
